What it means
The charge port door B position sensor reports a circuit low condition. Door state cannot be verified reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Door B’s position sensor reports the charge-port door’s position to the charging system controller. P2E9A sets when the sensor circuit signal falls below the expected range, so the controller may not see a valid door state.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live position data while opening and closing Door B, and check whether the sensor input remains low.
- Inspect the sensor circuit for a short to ground, pinched wire, or damage where the harness moves with the door.
- Check the sensor connector for corrosion, moisture, loose pins, or poor contact that could pull the signal low.
- Test the sensor and circuit for continuity and shorts using the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
- If the sensor and wiring pass, verify the controller input and grounds before replacing a module.
Common fixes
- Clean corroded terminals and secure the sensor connector.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or damaged harness section.
- Replace a position sensor that produces an out-of-range low signal.
- Repair a confirmed controller connection or input fault.
Can I keep driving?
Driving is generally possible if the charge-port door is closed and secure, but the vehicle may not recognize its position and charging could be unavailable or interrupted. Check that the door latches before driving and keep enough range for another charging option.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
