What it means
The charge port door B position sensor reports a circuit performance condition. Door state cannot be verified reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Door B’s position sensor tells the charging system controller whether that charge-port door is open or closed. P2E99 sets when the sensor circuit responds, but its output does not match the expected position or response pattern.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live Door B position data while moving the door through its normal travel, noting delayed, implausible, or incomplete changes.
- Inspect the sensor mounting and door mechanism for looseness, misalignment, or binding that could make the reported position inaccurate.
- Look over the sensor wiring and connector for chafing, moisture, corrosion, or a loose terminal.
- Measure the sensor output as the door moves and compare its response with the manufacturer’s specification.
- If the mechanical alignment, sensor, and wiring check out, investigate the controller input for a performance fault.
Common fixes
- Correct a loose sensor mounting or door alignment problem.
- Clean and secure the position-sensor connector.
- Repair wiring that causes an inconsistent or out-of-pattern signal.
- Replace a Door B position sensor whose output fails the specified response test.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually drive if Door B closes and latches securely, but charging may be refused or interrupted because the system cannot verify the door position. Confirm the door is closed before driving and allow for an alternate charging stop.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
