What it means
The charge port door B position sensor reports a circuit intermittent/erratic condition. Door state cannot be verified reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Door B’s position sensor reports whether the charge-port door is open or closed to the charging system controller. P2E9C sets when that signal is intermittent or erratic, so the controller sometimes loses a reliable door-position reading.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame and live position data while repeatedly opening and closing Door B, and look for status flicker or dropouts.
- Inspect the sensor mounting, door mechanism, harness, and connector for movement, chafing, moisture, or a loose fit.
- Watch live data while gently moving the accessible harness to see whether the position reading changes unexpectedly.
- Check terminal tension and test circuit continuity while moving the harness, using the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
- If the wiring and connector are sound, test the sensor for intermittent output before suspecting the controller.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose connector or harness and keep it clear of moving door parts.
- Clean terminals and repair intermittent wiring.
- Correct loose sensor mounting or replace a sensor that drops out.
- Repair a verified controller input connection.
Can I keep driving?
Driving is usually possible if the door stays latched, but an intermittent position signal can cause charging to fail or stop unexpectedly. Check the door before driving and keep extra range available for another charging location.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
