What it means
The control module detects a voltage below the expected range in the pressure control solenoid G control circuit. Possible causes include a short to ground or a solenoid or wiring fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The transmission control module controls current to pressure control solenoid G through its dedicated circuit. This code sets when the module detects voltage below the expected range on that circuit, which can happen if the control wire is shorted to ground, the coil is internally shorted, or a connector fault pulls the signal low.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to ground
- Internal short in solenoid coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine or transmission warning light
- Harsh or delayed shifts
- Transmission may slip or hesitate
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data to record the gear, temperature, and solenoid G command when the low-voltage fault set.
- Inspect solenoid G’s wiring and connector for insulation rubbed through to ground, corrosion, or damaged terminals.
- Check the solenoid G control wire for a short to ground using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and diagnostic procedure.
- Measure solenoid G coil resistance and compare it with the manufacturer's specification to identify an internally shorted coil.
- If the wiring and coil pass, test the module-side circuit and connector for a low signal using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair control-wire insulation shorted to ground.
- Clean corroded contacts or replace damaged solenoid G connector terminals.
- Replace solenoid G if its coil is shorted against the manufacturer's specification.
- Repair a module-side circuit fault if testing locates the low voltage there.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid towing or hard acceleration while shifts are abnormal because solenoid G may not control pressure as intended, increasing the risk of slipping and damage. If the vehicle slips badly or enters limp mode, stop safely and arrange diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
