What it means
The control module detects a voltage above the expected range in the pressure control solenoid G control circuit. Possible causes include a short to voltage or an open solenoid or wiring circuit.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Pressure control solenoid G regulates hydraulic pressure in a transmission circuit when the control module varies its electrical command. P2815 sets when the module sees voltage higher than expected in solenoid G’s control circuit, which can happen with a wire shorted to power, an open coil, or a poor connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to B+
- Open solenoid coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine or transmission warning light
- Harsh or delayed shifts
- Transmission may slip or hesitate
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and transmission codes first to see when the solenoid G circuit fault occurred and whether it coincided with shift symptoms.
- Inspect solenoid G’s transmission connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, damaged insulation, or contact with a power feed.
- Check the connector for pushed-back or corroded terminals that could create high resistance in the G circuit.
- With the circuit isolated as specified by the manufacturer, test solenoid G coil continuity and resistance against the manufacturer's specification.
- Test the G control wire for an open or short to battery voltage, following the manufacturer's wiring diagram and isolation procedure.
- If wiring and coil tests pass, compare commanded operation with transmission pressure or shift data to check for a separate hydraulic fault.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose solenoid G connector terminals.
- Repair the G control wire if it is shorted to power or open.
- Replace pressure control solenoid G if its coil is open or outside specification.
- Repair the connector or harness if damaged pins or insulation are causing the high reading.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid towing, hard acceleration, and unnecessary driving because harsh shifts or slipping can worsen transmission damage. If the transmission slips, shifts unpredictably, or enters limp mode, stop somewhere safe and arrange diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
