OBD-II fault code

P2808: Pressure Control Solenoid G Performance/Stuck Off

What it means

Pressure control solenoid G is commanded on but does not produce the expected pressure. Spool stuck closed or hydraulic feed restricted.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Pressure control solenoid G controls hydraulic pressure in its transmission circuit when the transmission control module commands it on. This code sets when the module expects pressure from that command but the circuit does not respond, such as when the solenoid spool remains closed or its hydraulic feed is restricted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Solenoid spool stuck in closed position
  2. Hydraulic feed restricted by debris
  3. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Transmission may slip or hesitate
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Use freeze-frame data to note the gear, temperature, and solenoid G command present when the fault set.
  2. Compare live solenoid G command with available pressure or shift-response data to confirm that pressure fails to rise as expected when commanded on.
  3. Inspect the solenoid G connector and wiring for damage or poor contact that could prevent the command from reaching the solenoid.
  4. Check transmission fluid condition and service history for signs of debris that could restrict solenoid G’s hydraulic feed.
  5. If electrical checks and fluid inspection do not explain the fault, inspect solenoid G’s spool and the valve-body feed passage for sticking or blockage.

Common fixes

  • Repair poor connections or damaged wiring at solenoid G.
  • Service contaminated transmission fluid and the filter if the manufacturer's procedure specifies it.
  • Clean or replace solenoid G if its spool is stuck closed or obstructed.
  • Clear debris from the restricted hydraulic feed and repair related valve-body damage.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving and avoid heavy loads or hard acceleration because the affected circuit may not build pressure when needed, causing slipping or loss of drive. Stop if the transmission slips significantly or enters limp mode; continued slipping can damage internal parts.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
