What it means
The HV battery temperature sensor O reports a circuit fault. Cell-group temperature monitoring impaired on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Sensor O measures temperature at its assigned area of the high-voltage battery, and the control module uses the reading to manage battery protection, power, and charging. This code indicates a fault in the O sensor circuit, which could arise from the sensor, an open or shorted wire, or a loose or corroded connector.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Failed temperature sensor
- Open, shorted, or damaged wiring
- Loose or corroded connector
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare Sensor O's reading with other battery temperature channels to see whether it is missing or implausible.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect Sensor O's connector and accessible wiring for looseness, corrosion, breaks, or damaged insulation.
- Check that O connector pins make sound contact and are not corroded or bent.
- Test the O circuit for continuity and shorts using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Test Sensor O and, if it and the wiring pass, check the control module input and connections.
Common fixes
- Reseat the Sensor O connector and clean or repair corroded terminals.
- Repair open, shorted, or damaged wiring in the O sensor circuit.
- Replace Sensor O if it fails testing.
- Repair the module connection or replace the control module only if diagnosis confirms its input is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may restrict power or charging while Sensor O's battery temperature reading is unreliable. Avoid demanding driving and follow any hybrid/EV warning that instructs you to stop.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
