OBD-II fault code

P0C7C: Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor G Circuit

What it means

The HV battery temperature sensor G reports a circuit fault. Cell-group temperature monitoring impaired on this channel.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Temperature sensor G measures a cell-group area inside the high-voltage battery so the battery control system can manage safe charging, discharging, and cooling. P0C7C sets when the sensor G circuit fails its electrical checks, leaving that temperature channel unreliable; the code does not by itself identify whether the sensor or its wiring is at fault.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Temperature sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault
  3. Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and battery-system codes to see when sensor G failed and whether other battery temperature channels also reported faults.
  2. Compare live sensor G temperature with nearby battery temperature readings and ambient conditions to identify an implausible or missing signal.
  3. With the pack kept closed and high-voltage procedures followed, inspect accessible sensor G wiring and connectors for damage, looseness, or corrosion.
  4. Test the sensor G circuit and sensor using the manufacturer’s procedure, comparing results with its specification.
  5. Review battery cell data for imbalance separately, since a cell issue can coexist with but does not prove a sensor G circuit fault.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair a loose, damaged, or corroded sensor G connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring in the sensor G circuit.
  • Replace temperature sensor G if testing confirms it has failed.
  • Address a separately confirmed battery cell imbalance or pack fault.

Can I keep driving?

Arrange prompt diagnosis and avoid charging or driving if the vehicle limits power, reports a battery warning, or behaves abnormally; missing sensor G data can cause conservative battery operation. Do not access the high-voltage battery or its sensor wiring yourself.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
