OBD-II fault code

P0CB7: Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor P Circuit

What it means

The HV battery temperature sensor P reports a circuit fault. Cell-group temperature monitoring impaired on this channel.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Sensor P monitors the temperature of a particular section of the high-voltage battery, and the battery control module uses its circuit signal to assess that section. This code indicates a general fault in Sensor P’s circuit, such as a failed sensor or damaged, open, shorted, loose, or corroded wiring, without specifying a low or high signal condition.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Failed temperature sensor
  2. Open, shorted, or damaged wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare Sensor P’s live temperature with nearby battery sensors to see whether it is missing, implausible, or unstable.
  2. Power down according to the manufacturer’s high-voltage safety procedure and inspect Sensor P’s connector and harness for loose seating, corrosion, pin damage, or chafing.
  3. Check the Sensor P circuit for opens and shorts using the vehicle’s wiring information.
  4. Check terminal fit and continuity through the connector, since a poor contact can mimic a failed sensor.
  5. If wiring and terminals pass inspection, test Sensor P against the manufacturer’s specification and replace it if it fails.

Common fixes

  • Reseat Sensor P’s connector and clean or repair corroded terminals.
  • Repair open, shorted, or damaged wiring in the Sensor P circuit.
  • Replace Sensor P if it fails the manufacturer’s test.

Can I keep driving?

The battery control system may reduce power or restrict charging while Sensor P’s section temperature is uncertain. Avoid demanding acceleration or extended driving if the vehicle is in reduced-power mode, and stop safely if a battery warning or loss of power occurs.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
