OBD-II fault code

P0C92: Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor K Circuit

What it means

The HV battery temperature sensor K reports a circuit fault. Cell-group temperature monitoring impaired on this channel.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The HV battery temperature sensor K measures temperature at its assigned battery location, and the control module uses that channel to protect the pack and manage charging. This circuit code sets when the module detects an electrical fault in the sensor K circuit, leaving that temperature channel unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Temperature sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault
  3. Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare live sensor K temperature with nearby battery temperature readings for an implausible value.
  2. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect the sensor K connector and accessible wiring for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
  3. Check that the sensor K connector is fully seated and its harness is not pinched or strained.
  4. Test sensor K circuit continuity and connections according to the manufacturer's procedure, avoiding HV components.
  5. If the circuit passes, test sensor K against the manufacturer's specifications and review pack balance data separately for signs of imbalance.

Common fixes

  • Reseat and secure the sensor K connector.
  • Repair corroded terminals or damaged sensor K wiring.
  • Replace sensor K if it fails the specified electrical test.
  • Address any independently confirmed pack imbalance using the manufacturer's service procedure.

Can I keep driving?

The hybrid system may reduce power or limit charging because it cannot rely on the sensor K reading. Keep driving gentle and limited, and stop if limp mode or a battery warning occurs.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
