What it means
The BMS detects a circuit range/performance fault on voltage sense channel V of the high-voltage battery. Cell-group voltage measurement is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The BMS monitors a cell group's voltage through channel V and checks whether the reading stays within its expected range and behavior. This code sets when channel V's reading is out of range or does not track as expected, which can point to voltage drift, a high-resistance contact, or a sensing element outside calibration.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sense voltage drifted
- High-resistance contact
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare channel V's live reading with neighboring cell-group voltages across different battery loads to see whether the mismatch persists.
- With the vehicle shut down under the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect channel V's wiring and connector for corrosion, looseness, or physical damage.
- Check channel V pin fit and contact condition because high resistance can cause the reading to drift as load changes.
- Have a qualified hybrid technician measure the channel V circuit and connections against the manufacturer's specification under the stated test conditions.
- If the circuit checks out, test the channel V sensing element and monitoring input for drift or calibration error using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reseat the channel V connector if contact is loose.
- Clean or repair channel V connector pins showing corrosion or high resistance.
- Repair or replace channel V wiring with excessive resistance or damage.
- Replace the sensing or monitoring component only if testing confirms channel V is outside its calibration limits.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and long trips if power is reduced, and treat the displayed electric range as potentially unreliable. Have the channel V circuit diagnosed promptly because charging and battery output may be restricted.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
