OBD-II fault code

P0B82: Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage Sense O Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The BMS detects a circuit range/performance fault on voltage sense channel O of the high-voltage battery. Cell-group voltage measurement is unreliable on this channel.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery management system checks whether the voltage reported by sense channel O tracks the expected voltage of its cell group. P0B82 sets when that reading is outside the expected performance range or drifts from a plausible value, even if the circuit is not simply open or shorted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sense voltage drifted
  2. High-resistance contact
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare channel O's live voltage with adjacent groups and its change during charging or driving to identify drift or an implausible reading.
  2. Check whether the fault appears as the battery warms, charges, or changes state of charge, and note any power or charging limits.
  3. With the high-voltage battery safely isolated under the vehicle's service procedure, inspect channel O terminals and wiring for high-resistance contact, corrosion, or damage.
  4. Have a qualified hybrid technician compare channel O's reported reading with the group's measured voltage using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
  5. If the connection is sound but the discrepancy persists, assess the channel O sensing element and battery monitoring module for drift beyond the manufacturer's calibration limits.

Common fixes

  • Clean or repair a high-resistance channel O connector contact.
  • Repair damaged channel O sense wiring that causes voltage drop or drift.
  • Replace an aged sensing element if testing confirms it is outside the manufacturer's calibration range.
  • Repair or replace the battery monitoring module if it reports channel O incorrectly despite a sound signal.

Can I keep driving?

Keep trips short and avoid demanding acceleration or relying on normal charging, since the BMS may limit power while channel O's reading is unreliable. Stop safely if the vehicle loses substantial power or displays additional high-voltage warnings.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
