What it means
The BMS detects a circuit low fault on voltage sense channel V of the high-voltage battery. Cell-group voltage measurement is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery management system (BMS) reads cell-group voltage through individual sense wires, including channel V. P0BA6 sets when the signal on V is lower than the BMS expects, so it cannot rely on that group’s voltage reading.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sense wire shorted to ground
- Open in sense wire
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare live readings for channel V with adjacent battery sense channels to confirm whether V alone reads abnormally low.
- Inspect the channel V harness and connectors for damage, moisture, corrosion, loose pins, or contact with the battery case.
- With the high-voltage system made safe according to the vehicle procedure, check the V sense wire for a short to ground or an open circuit.
- Check connector pin condition and continuity through the V circuit, accounting for resistance at corroded or loose contacts.
- Compare circuit measurements with the manufacturer's specification and determine whether the fault is in the wiring or the BMS input.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the channel V connector.
- Clean or repair corroded or damaged V circuit terminals.
- Repair an open or shorted channel V sense wire.
- Replace the affected BMS component if the V input remains faulty after wiring checks.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid relying on electric power or attempting long trips; the vehicle may limit power or stop charging because the BMS cannot trust channel V. If power is reduced or the hybrid warning escalates, stop somewhere safe and arrange service.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
