What it means
The brake pressure sensor D signal is above the expected range. The code alone does not identify whether the cause is the sensor or its circuit.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Brake pressure sensor D provides the control module with a signal used to assess hydraulic pressure and support brake or stability-control functions. The module sets C0576 when that signal is higher than its expected range; the code does not by itself distinguish a sensor fault from a wiring or connection fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to battery
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Brake or ABS warning light
- Brake pressure or stability-control functions may be limited
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and compare the live reading for brake pressure sensor D with other available brake-pressure data to see whether the high reading is constant or occurred under a particular condition.
- With the vehicle safely parked, inspect sensor D's connector and harness for corrosion, damage, pinched sections, or contact with a battery-positive supply.
- Check the connector pins for corrosion or poor contact, since added resistance can distort the sensor signal.
- With the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification, test sensor D's signal wire for a short to battery voltage and verify its supply and ground circuits.
- If the wiring checks pass, compare sensor D's output with the manufacturer's specification and assess the sensor and control module before replacing parts.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor D connector contacts.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to battery voltage.
- Repair a pinched supply wire or damaged harness section.
- Replace brake pressure sensor D if its output fails the manufacturer's specification.
- Repair or replace the control module only if circuit and sensor tests identify it as the fault.
Can I keep driving?
Drive cautiously only if braking feels normal and no brake warning indicates that stopping ability is reduced; avoid hard braking and high-speed or slippery-road driving. If the brake pedal feels abnormal or braking assistance is limited, stop in a safe place and arrange inspection, because brake or stability-control functions may be restricted.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
