What is the MG ZS?

The modern MG ZS is a compact SUV with a raised driving position and space for everyday passengers and luggage. It sits among the practical models in MG’s range and has been offered with petrol, hybrid and electric power, depending on market and year.

MG began as Morris Garages in Oxford in 1924, building its name with sportier cars. The ZS carries the badge into the family SUV market.

MG ZS generations

The original MG ZS (R3) was a sporty family car sold from 2002 to 2005. The first-generation ZS SUV (ZS11) followed in 2017 and ran through 2024. A second-generation SUV arrived in 2024 with updated styling and hybrid power.

Engines, power and economy

In the EU, ZS versions listed from 2017 to 2025 include petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric power. Engine sizes range from 1.0 L to 1.5 L, and power from 68 kW (92 PS) to 130 kW (177 PS). The lowest listed consumption for petrol and hybrid versions is 5.1 L/100 km on WLTP. The plug-in hybrid’s official weighted figure is also 5.1 L/100 km, assuming some driving is electric.

In the UK, listings from 2002 to 2026 include the earlier ZS as well as the modern SUV. Engine sizes range from 1.0 L to 2.5 L, power from 74 kW (101 PS) to 177 kW (241 PS), and the lowest listed consumption is 5.1 L/100 km on WLTP. EU registration figures record 358,120 ZS vehicles from 2017 to 2025. In France, listed 2026 petrol versions have 1.0 L to 1.5 L engines and 78 kW (106 PS) to 82 kW (111 PS).

Where was the MG ZS sold?

The modern SUV appears in EU and UK listings. UK figures also include the earlier ZS, while French listings cover petrol versions. European fuel consumption figures use WLTP or, for some older vehicles, NEDC; the procedures differ. US EPA and Canadian 5-cycle tests also use different procedures.
