What is the MG GS?

The MG GS is a family SUV with a raised driving position and room for passengers and luggage. It brought a taller body style to MG’s range, alongside its hatchbacks and saloons. MG is a British marque now owned by SAIC Motor, the Chinese automotive group behind the GS.

The first generation, known by the code AS21, was sold in the EU and UK from 2016 to 2019. The GS was MG’s first SUV, giving the marque a new kind of family car.

Engines and power

The EU registration range includes five versions, all petrol-powered with a 1.5-litre engine. In those registrations, the GS has a simple engine line-up: there are no diesel or alternative-fuel versions.

Fuel consumption and emissions

There were 5,754 MG GS registrations in the EU from 2016 to 2019. The 1.5-litre petrol version was the leading entry in each year shown: 760 registrations in 2016, 1,920 in 2017 and 1,950 in 2018. Registration totals show how many cars were registered; they are not fuel-consumption or CO₂ ratings.

The GS was also sold in the UK. European consumption and emissions tests use WLTP or NEDC procedures, while the US EPA and Canadian 5-cycle tests use different methods. Ratings from those markets are therefore not directly comparable.
