What is the Kia Soul?

The Soul is a small, upright car with a distinctive boxy shape. Its design gives it a practical cabin in a compact form, and sets it apart in Kia’s range.

The Soul kept its upright styling as it developed across generations, while its design details and powertrains changed over time.

Soul generations

The first generation (AM) ran from 2010 to 2013, the second (PS) from 2014 to 2019 and the third (SK3) from 2019 to 2025. The second generation retained the original’s boxy character while revising its design and chassis. The third continued the familiar silhouette with more sculpted bodywork and updated details.

The Soul appears in EU registrations from 2010 to 2025, UK figures from 2009 to 2024, US and Canadian figures from 2010 to 2025, and French figures from 2012 to 2026.

Engines, power and fuel consumption

The Soul’s powertrains varied by market and year. EU versions include electric, diesel, petrol, LPG and other fuel types, with power from 24 kW (33 PS) to 150 kW (204 PS). UK figures span 94 kW (128 PS) to 204 kW (277 PS), while Canadian figures list 81 kW (110 PS) to 150 kW (204 PS). US and Canadian versions have engines from 1.6 L to 2.0 L.

The lowest listed consumption is 4.8 L/100 km in UK NEDC figures and 4.9 L/100 km in French NEDC figures. The US EPA low is 7.6 L/100 km, with a best combined rating of 31 MPG. Canada’s low is 7.8 L/100 km on the 5-cycle test. Test procedures differ by market: WLTP and NEDC in Europe, EPA in the US, and 5-cycle testing in Canada, so the results are not directly comparable.

Where was the Soul sold?

The Soul appears in figures for the EU, UK, France, the United States and Canada. EU registrations total 227,968 from 2010 to 2025. The 1.6 L diesel was among the most registered EU configurations in 2010, with other 1.6 L diesel versions also prominent in later years. Electric versions were available alongside petrol and diesel models.
