What is the DS 4?
The DS 4 is a premium hatchback with a sculpted profile and a slightly raised stance. It sits between the smaller DS 3 and the larger DS 7 in the range. The second generation brought a new design, distinctive lighting and a more digital cabin, along with plug-in hybrid power.
DS Automobiles became a standalone brand in 2014, inspired by the original DS unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955. French design, comfort and an interest in technology are central to the brand’s identity.
Generations and engines
The first generation ran from 2015 to 2018, followed by the second generation, which has been built since 2021. The later car brought updated technology and electrified power options. In the EU, engine sizes ranged from 1.2 to 2.0 litres and power from 73 kW (99 PS) to 165 kW (224 PS). UK figures extend to 179 kW (243 PS).
The range included petrol and diesel versions, hybrids and plug-in hybrids. A plug-in hybrid combines a petrol engine with electric power, allowing it to run on electricity for some driving.
Fuel consumption and CO₂
The lowest EU consumption for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 4.8 L/100 km on WLTP. The lowest plug-in hybrid figure is 1.2 L/100 km WLTP, a weighted result that assumes some driving is electric. UK figures show a low of 3.8 L/100 km under NEDC for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions, and 5.8 L/100 km WLTP for a plug-in hybrid. WLTP and NEDC use different test procedures, so their results are not directly comparable.
Where was the DS 4 sold?
EU registration figures span 2015–2025 and total 127,718 cars. UK figures span 2015–2026, and France has a petrol entry for 2026. Across its generations, the DS 4 developed from a compact hatchback into a more technology-focused model with electrified options.
