What it means
The charge port door B open request switch reports a circuit intermittent/erratic condition. Operator request for charge port unlocking is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Door B’s open-request switch tells the charging system controller when the driver asks to open the charge-port door. P2E97 sets when that signal changes unpredictably or drops in and out, rather than staying consistently in one faulty state.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Switch failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame and live switch data while repeatedly operating Door B’s request, and note any missed or erratic state changes.
- Inspect the switch, harness, and connector for looseness, chafing, moisture, or damage that could move as the door operates.
- With live data displayed, gently move the accessible harness and connector to see whether the switch status flickers.
- Check terminal tension and test circuit continuity while moving the harness, following the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
- If the signal remains erratic with sound wiring and connections, test the Door B switch itself before considering a controller fault.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose connector or harness so it cannot move against the door.
- Clean terminals and repair intermittent or damaged wiring.
- Replace a switch that drops out intermittently.
- Repair a verified controller input connection.
Can I keep driving?
Driving is usually possible, but Door B may unlock unpredictably and a charging session may fail to start or be interrupted. Keep extra range available and avoid depending on this port until the intermittent fault is repaired.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
