What it means
The ECM detects a circuit fault on the battery charger coupler temperature sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Temperature sensor C monitors heat at the battery charger coupler, where the charging cable connects to the vehicle. The control module checks the sensor circuit for a usable signal and sets P2E4A when it detects a circuit fault, making the reported coupler temperature unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and review charging-system live data for sensor C temperature, charging interruptions, and related coupler faults.
- Compare sensor C's reading with the other coupler temperature readings and ambient conditions to identify an implausible or missing signal.
- Inspect the sensor C connector and accessible harness at the charger coupler for corrosion, loose pins, moisture, or damage.
- Test sensor C's circuit and connector continuity against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the wiring passes, test sensor C and replace it only if the manufacturer's procedure confirms failure.
Common fixes
- Clean, secure, or repair a loose or corroded sensor C connector.
- Repair damaged wiring in the charger-coupler sensor C circuit.
- Replace battery charger coupler temperature sensor C if testing confirms it has failed.
- Clear the code and verify the sensor reading and charging operation.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may be refused, interrupted, or slowed because the vehicle cannot rely on the coupler's sensor C temperature reading. Avoid charging if the connector or coupler is unusually hot, damaged, or showing a temperature warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
