What it means
The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the battery charger coupler temperature sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery charger coupler temperature sensor C measures heat at the vehicle's charging connection. P2E4B sets when the module sees a reading that is electrically possible but outside the expected range or response pattern, so it cannot reliably use sensor C to manage charging.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check live data for sensor C temperature during charging and alongside the other coupler temperature readings.
- Check whether sensor C changes plausibly with charging activity and ambient temperature rather than remaining offset, erratic, or unresponsive.
- Inspect sensor C's mounting and contact with the charger coupler for displacement, looseness, or damage.
- Inspect the sensor C connector and wiring for corrosion, poor contact, or damage that could distort the reading.
- If mounting and wiring are sound, test sensor C against the manufacturer's temperature-response specification.
Common fixes
- Secure sensor C in its correct position at the charger coupler.
- Repair poor connections or damaged wiring in the sensor C circuit.
- Replace sensor C if its response has drifted outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Clear the code and verify sensor C tracks temperature normally during charging.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may be limited, interrupted, or refused if sensor C reports an implausible coupler temperature. Do not continue charging if the coupler is hot, damaged, or the vehicle displays an overheating warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
