What it means
The ECM detects a circuit high fault on the battery charger coupler temperature sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery charger coupler temperature sensor C monitors heat at the vehicle's charging connection. This high-circuit code means the module detects a signal higher than expected, which can result from an open sensor circuit, a short to battery voltage, or excessive resistance at a connector.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to B+
- Open sensor
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check live data for sensor C's temperature reading and related charger-coupler faults.
- Compare sensor C's reading with the other coupler temperature sensors and ambient conditions to identify an implausibly high or fixed value.
- Inspect sensor C's wiring and connector for open or broken conductors, corrosion, loose pins, and contact with a power feed.
- Test the sensor C signal circuit for an open or short to battery voltage and check terminal resistance against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the wiring passes, test sensor C and replace it only if the manufacturer's procedure confirms an open or failed sensor.
Common fixes
- Repair an open or damaged wire in sensor C's circuit.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to battery voltage.
- Clean or replace corroded or loose connector terminals at sensor C.
- Replace sensor C if testing confirms it is open or failed.
- Clear the code and confirm a plausible reading and normal charging.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may be slowed, interrupted, or refused while sensor C reports an unreliable coupler temperature. Avoid charging if the coupler is visibly damaged, unusually hot, or showing an overheating warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
