What it means
Battery charger B reports a enable circuit high condition. HV charging operation may be impaired. The on-board charger negotiates voltage, current and safety with the EVSE; a fault interrupts charging or limits it to AC slow-charge despite a DC fast charger being attached.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Charger B's enable circuit tells the module when charger operation is allowed. P2E37 sets when the monitored enable signal is higher than its acceptable range, which can happen if the wire is shorted to battery positive or its pull-down path has failed.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire shorted to B+
- Pull-down resistor open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live data for charger B enable status or voltage to verify the high signal and its timing.
- Inspect the enable wire and connector for damaged insulation, a short to battery positive, corrosion, or poor terminal contact.
- Check connector fit and pin condition because high contact resistance can distort the enable signal.
- Test the enable circuit for a short to B+ and check the pull-down path using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and procedure.
- If the circuit tests pass, diagnose the charger B module input according to the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Repair an enable wire shorted to battery positive.
- Repair corroded or loose enable connector terminals.
- Restore the failed pull-down path if circuit testing confirms it is open.
- Replace the charger B module only if its input circuit is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may not start or may stop unexpectedly, reducing available range. If the vehicle displays a high-voltage warning, stop charging and follow its instructions; do not bypass the enable circuit.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
