OBD-II fault code

P0E62: Battery Charger A Enable Circuit Low

What it means

The control module detects voltage below the expected range in the battery charger enable circuit. The effect on charging depends on the vehicle.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery charger’s enable circuit tells the vehicle’s control module whether charging is permitted. P0E62 sets when the module sees this circuit below its expected voltage range, which can prevent charging from starting or make it stop unexpectedly.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wire shorted to ground
  2. Module input short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Charge status indicator shows fault
  • Charging may not start or interrupts
  • Slower-than-expected charge rate

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check the charger enable status while a charging attempt is made.
  2. With the vehicle safely powered down, inspect the charger enable wiring and connectors for damage, moisture, corrosion, or a wire touching ground.
  3. Check the connector pins for corrosion or poor contact that could add resistance and pull the enable signal low.
  4. Following the vehicle’s service procedure, measure the enable circuit against the manufacturer’s specification and check for a short to ground.
  5. If the wiring and connections pass, check the control module input for an internal short using the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose enable-circuit connector pins.
  • Repair or replace enable wiring that is shorted to ground.
  • Repair a damaged connector or restore its pin contact.
  • Repair or replace the affected control module if its input is confirmed shorted.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid relying on the vehicle until you have confirmed it can charge reliably; a failed or interrupted charge can leave an EV or hybrid with insufficient electric range. If the vehicle shows a high-voltage system warning or reduced power, follow the vehicle’s safety guidance and arrange diagnosis before driving further.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
