OBD-II fault code

P2D26: Coolant Pump E Control Circuit Performance/Stuck Off

What it means

Coolant pump E is commanded on but does not respond as expected. Pump motor stuck, relay weld, or driver fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Coolant pump E circulates coolant through a vehicle cooling circuit, which may support engine, hybrid, or other components depending on the vehicle. P2D26 sets when the control module commands pump E on but detects that it is stuck off or its response does not meet expectations.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Pump motor mechanically stuck
  2. Output driver fault
  3. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or hybrid-system warning
  • Power limited warning
  • Reduced performance under load

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and pump E command and status with a scan tool to confirm the fault occurred while the pump was requested to run.
  2. Check coolant level and inspect pump E, its hoses, and nearby wiring for leaks, damage, or a disconnected plug.
  3. With the vehicle safely powered as required, confirm whether pump E operates when commanded and listen or feel for signs that its motor is stalled.
  4. Inspect pump E's electrical connector, fuse, relay, and wiring for corrosion, overheating, opens, or poor connections.
  5. Test pump E's control circuit and motor operation against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish a stuck pump from a driver fault.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair loose or damaged wiring at pump E.
  • Replace a failed fuse or relay after checking for the cause of failure.
  • Clear debris or contamination only if the manufacturer's procedure allows service of pump E.
  • Replace pump E if it remains mechanically stuck or fails its electrical test.
  • Repair the control module output circuit if testing identifies a driver fault.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard driving and heavy loads because reduced coolant circulation can cause overheating or force the vehicle to limit power. If a temperature warning appears or the vehicle reports a hybrid-system fault, stop safely and follow the vehicle's warning instructions.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
