OBD-II fault code

P2DF6: Coolant Pump E Control Circuit High

What it means

Coolant pump E reports a control circuit high condition. Coolant circulation through the affected loop cannot be commanded reliably.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Coolant pump E moves coolant through its assigned loop, and the control module monitors the electrical signal used to operate it. This code sets when the pump E control circuit signal is higher than expected, which can stop the controller from commanding circulation reliably. An open connection, short to power, or failed pump or driver may produce this high reading.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Pump motor or driver fault
  2. Wiring or connector fault
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Coolant temperature warning or rising temperature gauge
  • Reduced engine power

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and live coolant temperatures to see whether the fault coincided with a pump E command or rising loop temperature.
  2. With the engine cool, inspect pump E's connector for loose, spread, corroded, or damaged terminals.
  3. Check the pump E harness for broken conductors or a short to battery voltage, using the vehicle wiring diagram.
  4. Measure the circuit signal under the manufacturer's specified conditions and compare it with the expected range.
  5. Use a scan tool to command pump E and observe whether its status or feedback changes.
  6. If wiring and terminals pass, test the pump and its control driver against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Repair an open connection or damaged terminal in the pump E circuit.
  • Repair wiring that is shorted to a power feed.
  • Replace pump E if it does not respond despite correct circuit supply and control.
  • Repair a failed driver if pump E and its wiring pass testing.

Can I keep driving?

Stop safely and switch off the engine if the temperature rises or a coolant warning appears, since unreliable circulation can lead to overheating. If temperatures remain normal, keep driving brief and gentle and watch the gauge closely.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
