What it means
Coolant pump D reports a control circuit low condition. Coolant circulation through the affected loop cannot be commanded reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Coolant pump D circulates coolant through its assigned loop, and the control module monitors the electrical level on the pump's control circuit. P2B67 sets when that circuit is pulled abnormally low, which can indicate a short to ground or an internal pump fault and prevent reliable pump operation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to ground
- Internal short in pump motor
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Engine or a coolant-cooled component may run hotter than usual
- Cabin heat or cooling performance may be reduced
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and live pump D command and status with affected-loop temperatures to determine whether the low-circuit fault coincides with loss of circulation.
- With the vehicle safely powered down, inspect pump D's control connector and harness for corrosion, damaged insulation, or a wire contacting ground.
- Check connector pins for corrosion or poor contact that could pull the control signal low.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the control circuit for a short to ground and check pump resistance or current only as specified by the manufacturer.
- If the wiring and connector pass, test pump D's internal circuit and module control output against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose pump D connector terminals.
- Repair a control wire shorted to ground or damaged harness insulation.
- Replace pump D if its internal circuit is shorted.
- Repair the control module or its output circuit if pump D and the wiring pass testing.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if temperature rises or the affected loop is not circulating; stop safely if the engine or component overheats. Pump D may be inoperative, and continued overheating can cause damage or prompt reduced-power operation.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
