OBD-II fault code

P2819: Pressure Control Solenoid H Electrical

What it means

The TCM detects an electrical fault on transmission pressure control solenoid H. Hydraulic pressure cannot be modulated as expected, causing harsh or slipping shifts.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Pressure control solenoid H varies hydraulic pressure in its assigned transmission circuit under control-module command. P2819 means the transmission control module has detected an electrical fault in H's circuit, so it may not be able to regulate that pressure correctly.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Internal solenoid fault
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Transmission may slip or hesitate
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and related transmission codes to establish when the H electrical fault occurred and whether it is part of a wider wiring problem.
  2. Inspect solenoid H's connector and harness for corrosion, loose terminals, chafing, or damaged insulation.
  3. Check the H circuit's continuity and for shorts using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and isolation procedure.
  4. Measure solenoid H coil resistance and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Use scan-tool commands and available current or pressure data to see whether H responds when commanded.
  6. If the circuit and coil pass but the pressure response does not, inspect the solenoid and valve body for a mechanical fault.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded solenoid H connector.
  • Repair an open, shorted, or damaged section of the H wiring.
  • Replace solenoid H if its coil fails the manufacturer's electrical checks.
  • Service the valve body if electrical operation is correct but H still does not regulate pressure.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid heavy loads and unnecessary driving because poor pressure control can lead to slipping, harsh shifts, and transmission damage. If it slips badly, loses drive, or enters limp mode, stop safely and arrange diagnosis.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
