OBD-II fault code

P2725: Pressure Control Solenoid E Electrical

What it means

Electrical fault in pressure control solenoid E — open or shorted coil, or short to ground/battery in the harness.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Pressure control solenoid E is an electrically operated valve used to regulate transmission hydraulic pressure. P2725 indicates an electrical fault in its circuit, such as an open or shorted coil or damaged wiring, so the controller may not be able to control pressure as commanded.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open solenoid coil
  2. Short to ground or battery in the harness

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Slipping or reduced drive
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for related transmission codes to see whether the circuit fault occurs with a particular gear or operating condition.
  2. Inspect solenoid E wiring and connector for chafing, damaged insulation, corrosion, fluid intrusion, or loose terminals.
  3. Check circuit continuity and look for shorts to ground or battery voltage using the vehicle's wiring diagram.
  4. Measure solenoid E coil condition and compare it with the manufacturer's specification to identify an open or shorted coil.
  5. If the solenoid and harness pass testing, check the controller output circuit according to the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the solenoid E connector; repair corroded or loose terminals.
  • Repair the harness where it is open or shorted to ground or battery voltage.
  • Replace pressure control solenoid E if its coil fails the specified test.
  • Repair the controller output circuit only after the solenoid and wiring have been verified.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid towing and hard acceleration if shifts are harsh, slipping, or reduced, and limit driving if the transmission enters limp mode. Incorrect pressure control can increase heat and internal wear.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
