OBD-II fault code

P0EB9: A/C Compressor Motor Phase V Current Sensor Circuit

What it means

The A/C compressor motor phase V current sensor reports a fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The phase V current sensor measures current in the V phase of the A/C compressor motor and reports it to the control module. P0EB9 indicates a fault in that sensor circuit, but does not by itself identify whether the signal is low, high, or implausible.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Current sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or hybrid system warning light
  • Air conditioning may not cool
  • Cooling may be intermittent

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and live phase V readings, noting whether phase U or related compressor codes are also present.
  2. Inspect the phase V sensor connector and accessible wiring for damage, looseness, corrosion, or poor terminal contact.
  3. Check the phase V signal and ground circuits for opens, shorts, or excessive resistance using the manufacturer's specification.
  4. Compare phase V sensor output with phase U under the same specified operating conditions.
  5. If the circuit is sound, test the phase V sensor and compressor inverter using the vehicle's service information.

Common fixes

  • Reseat the phase V connector and correct poor terminal contact.
  • Repair damaged or corroded phase V circuit wiring.
  • Replace the phase V current sensor if it fails the specified test.
  • Repair or replace the compressor inverter if the diagnostic results identify it as faulty.

Can I keep driving?

A/C may not cool or may work intermittently, so avoid relying on it for defogging until the fault is diagnosed. If a hybrid-system warning or reduced-power condition occurs, follow the vehicle's instructions and arrange service promptly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
