What it means
A/C Compressor Motor Phase V Current Sensor Circuit Intermittent/Erratic: the signal is intermittent or erratic. Often a loose connector or chafed wiring; a wiggle test often locates it.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The A/C compressor motor uses three electrical phases, and a current sensor monitors phase V so the control module can manage compressor operation. This code sets when the phase V sensor signal changes erratically or drops in and out, often as a connector or wire moves with vibration.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- A/C warning light or check-engine light
- Air conditioning may cool intermittently
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and watch the phase V current-sensor reading while the A/C is commanded on to see when it becomes erratic.
- Inspect the phase V sensor connector and nearby harness for loose pins, corrosion, chafing, or damage.
- With the system safely powered down as specified by the manufacturer, gently move the harness while monitoring circuit continuity or scan data for dropouts.
- Check the sensor circuit wiring and connector terminals for intermittent opens or shorts, comparing results with the manufacturer's wiring information.
- If the wiring and connections remain sound, test the phase V current sensor against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose phase V sensor connector or repair a poor terminal fit.
- Repair chafed or damaged wiring in the phase V sensor circuit.
- Clean or repair corroded connector terminals.
- Replace the phase V current sensor if it fails testing.
Can I keep driving?
If cooling cuts in and out, avoid relying on the A/C until the fault is repaired; the control module may disable the compressor. The vehicle may also limit compressor operation, so follow any hybrid or EV warnings displayed.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
