What it means
A/C Compressor Motor Phase V Current Sensor Circuit High: the signal voltage is above the expected range. Often an open circuit or a short to supply voltage.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The phase V current sensor monitors current in the V phase of the A/C compressor motor and sends that information to the control module. P0EBC sets when the phase V signal is higher than the expected range, which may result from an open circuit or a short toward supply.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- A/C warning light or check-engine light
- Air conditioning may cool poorly or stop cooling
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and live phase V readings to confirm the high signal and look for related compressor codes.
- Inspect the phase V connector and harness for corrosion, damaged insulation, loose pins, or poor terminal contact.
- With the circuit made safe according to service information, check the phase V signal for an open or short to supply.
- Measure continuity and inspect terminal contact quality against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the wiring passes, test the phase V sensor and compressor inverter using the specified diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Secure the phase V connector and repair poor or corroded terminal contact.
- Repair an open or short to supply in the phase V signal wiring.
- Replace the phase V current sensor if its signal remains high with the circuit verified.
- Repair or replace the compressor inverter if testing confirms it is responsible.
Can I keep driving?
A/C may cool poorly or stop cooling, so avoid relying on it for defogging until the fault is resolved. If a hybrid-system warning or reduced-power condition appears, follow the vehicle's instructions and arrange prompt diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
