OBD-II fault code

P0EBE: A/C Compressor Motor Phase W Current Sensor Circuit

What it means

The control module monitors the current sensor circuit for phase W of the A/C compressor motor. It sets this code when it detects a fault in that circuit; the title alone does not identify the electrical fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The A/C compressor motor is driven through electrical phases, and a current sensor monitors phase W for compressor control. This code indicates a fault in the phase W sensor circuit, but does not by itself say whether the signal is low, high, or otherwise faulty.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Current sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault

Symptoms

  • A/C warning light or check-engine light
  • Air conditioning may cool poorly or intermittently

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check the phase W current-sensor reading and related A/C fault codes with a scan tool.
  2. Inspect the phase W sensor connector and harness for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or broken wires.
  3. Check the sensor circuit for continuity and shorts using the manufacturer's wiring information.
  4. Compare the phase W signal with the manufacturer's specification under the conditions in which the fault occurred.
  5. If wiring and connections test correctly, test the phase W current sensor and replace it only if it fails the specified checks.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or secure a loose phase W sensor connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or poor terminal contact in the phase W circuit.
  • Clean or repair corroded connector terminals.
  • Replace the phase W current sensor if testing confirms it has failed.

Can I keep driving?

You can generally drive if the vehicle shows no other warnings, but A/C cooling may be reduced or intermittent and the system may disable the compressor. Treat hybrid or EV warnings according to the vehicle manual.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
