What it means
The control circuit for hybrid/EV battery pack coolant control valve B is above its expected electrical range.
At a glance
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery pack coolant control valve B's control circuit operates the valve that manages coolant flow through the battery cooling system. P0D1E sets when the module detects circuit voltage above its expected range, which can result from a wire shorted to power, an open actuator coil, or excessive connector resistance.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire shorted to B+
- Coil open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame and live data for valve B's command and circuit status, and note any related cooling-control codes.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect valve B's harness for damaged insulation or contact with a power feed.
- Inspect valve B connector pins for corrosion or poor contact, which can raise resistance and affect the circuit reading.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the control wire for a short to B+ and check actuator coil continuity using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Compare the circuit readings with the manufacturer's specification, repair the high-voltage cause, and confirm valve B operates when commanded.
Common fixes
- Repair a control wire shorted to B+.
- Clean or replace corroded valve B connector terminals.
- Repair an open in the actuator coil circuit.
- Replace valve B if its coil is open or otherwise fails the specified test.
Can I keep driving?
Limit high-load driving and charging if a battery cooling warning or reduced-power mode appears, because valve B may not control battery cooling properly. Stop if the vehicle displays a battery temperature warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
