What it means
The HV battery pack coolant control valve A reports a control circuit high condition. Coolant routing to battery sections may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Coolant control valve A is operated through a circuit that lets the module route coolant through the hybrid or EV battery pack. P0CE3 sets when the monitored control circuit is higher than expected, which can indicate a wire shorted to battery positive or an open actuator coil and disrupt valve operation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire shorted to B+
- Coil open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live valve A command, feedback, and battery temperature readings to establish how the high circuit condition affects cooling.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect valve A’s connector and harness for damage, corrosion, or a wire contacting battery positive.
- Use the manufacturer's wiring diagram to check the control signal and supply for an unintended positive feed and inspect the ground connection.
- If wiring and connections are sound, test valve A’s actuator coil for an open circuit using the manufacturer's procedure.
- After repairs, clear the code and verify that valve A responds properly to commands.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded valve A connector pins.
- Repair the control wire shorted to battery positive.
- Replace valve A’s actuator if its coil is open.
- Repair an open or damaged connection found during circuit testing.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid heavy driving and charging if the vehicle limits power, since valve control problems can affect battery cooling or charging. Stop safely if a battery temperature warning or shutdown message appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
