What it means
The HV battery pack coolant control valve A reports a stuck on condition. Coolant routing to battery sections may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Coolant control valve A directs coolant through the hybrid or EV battery pack when the control module requests cooling. P0CE1 sets when the valve remains on or reports an on state when it should not, which can route coolant incorrectly and disrupt battery temperature control.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Valve stuck in the on position
- Valve actuator or control fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare the valve A command with its position feedback and battery temperature readings.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect valve A’s connector and harness for damage that could keep its actuator energized.
- Use available scan-tool data or output controls to check whether valve A’s reported position changes with the command.
- If the electrical command is correct but the valve remains on, inspect the valve and linkage for sticking or binding according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- After repair, clear the code and verify that valve A follows commanded changes and battery temperatures respond normally.
Common fixes
- Repair a wiring or connector fault that holds valve A in the on state.
- Free or clean a sticking valve or linkage if the manufacturer's procedure allows it.
- Replace valve A if it remains stuck on or fails to follow valid commands.
- Repair an actuator or control fault identified by circuit testing.
Can I keep driving?
Limit heavy driving and charging because incorrect coolant routing can impair battery temperature control and lead to reduced power or charging limits. Stop safely if a battery temperature warning or shutdown message appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
