What it means
The HV battery pack coolant control valve B reports a performance/stuck off condition.
At a glance
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery pack coolant control valve B regulates coolant flow through part of the hybrid or electric battery cooling system. P0D1B sets when the module commands valve B to operate but detects a stuck-off or inadequate response, consistent with a valve that remains closed or cannot move freely.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Valve stuck closed
- Actuator failed
- Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and live battery cooling data for valve B's commanded state, reported position, and the conditions when the response failed.
- With the vehicle powered down per the manufacturer's procedure, inspect valve B's connector and nearby harness for damage that could prevent actuation.
- Check the cooling system for serviceable signs of blockage or contamination that could prevent valve B from moving, using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Command valve B through an appropriate scan-tool test and compare its response with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the electrical command is present but flow or movement remains absent, test the valve actuator and inspect the valve for sticking or debris as directed by the manufacturer.
Common fixes
- Clear debris or contamination that is preventing valve B from moving, if serviceable.
- Repair a poor connector or damaged valve B wiring.
- Replace valve B if it is mechanically stuck closed.
- Replace the actuator if it fails the specified actuation test.
Can I keep driving?
Limit high-load driving and charging if the battery cooling warning or reduced-power mode is active; poor coolant flow can lead to further power limits and battery temperature problems. Stop if a battery temperature warning appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
