OBD-II fault code

P0CE2: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Control Valve A Control Circuit Low

What it means

The HV battery pack coolant control valve A reports a control circuit low condition. Coolant routing to battery sections may be impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Coolant control valve A uses an electrical control circuit to route coolant through the hybrid or EV battery pack. P0CE2 sets when that circuit’s monitored signal is lower than expected, which may prevent the module from controlling the valve and reduce battery cooling.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wire shorted to ground
  2. Coil internal short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and live battery temperature and valve A command or feedback readings to see when the low circuit condition occurs.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect valve A’s connector and wiring for corrosion, damage, or a signal wire contacting ground.
  3. Use the manufacturer's wiring diagram to check the valve A control signal, supply, and ground for a short to ground or poor connection.
  4. If the wiring is sound, test the actuator coil for an internal short using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. After repairs, clear the code and confirm valve A responds to commands and battery cooling data is plausible.

Common fixes

  • Clean corroded valve A connector pins and secure the connection.
  • Repair the control wire shorted to ground.
  • Replace the valve A actuator if its coil is internally shorted.
  • Repair a poor ground or damaged terminal identified during circuit testing.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid heavy driving and charging if power is reduced, as limited valve control can impair battery cooling and cause further power or charging limits. Stop safely if a battery temperature warning or shutdown message appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
