OBD-II fault code

P0D1C: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Control Valve B Stuck On

What it means

The module monitors whether coolant control valve B for the hybrid or electric battery pack responds to its command to turn off. It sets this code when the valve is detected as remaining on when it should be off.

At a glance

  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Battery pack coolant control valve B regulates coolant flow through part of the hybrid or electric battery cooling system. P0D1C sets when the module commands valve B off but detects that it remains on, which can result from a valve stuck open or an actuator driver that continues to energize it.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Valve stuck open
  2. Driver stuck on
  3. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame and live cooling data to confirm valve B was commanded off when the fault occurred and check for related cooling-system codes.
  2. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect valve B's connector and harness for damage or a short that could keep its driver energized.
  3. Use the scan tool's valve command test, where supported, to compare the commanded off state with valve B's reported position or coolant response.
  4. Test the valve B driver circuit for a persistent command or short using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the driver command stops but coolant flow or valve position indicates it remains open, inspect for sticking or debris and compare valve operation with the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Repair wiring or connector damage that keeps valve B energized.
  • Clean serviceable debris that prevents the valve from closing.
  • Replace valve B if it is mechanically stuck open.
  • Repair or replace the valve driver component if testing confirms it remains on.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid extended driving or charging if the vehicle reports a battery cooling fault or limits power, since unintended coolant flow can disrupt battery temperature control. Stop if a battery temperature warning appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
