What it means
The control circuit for hybrid/EV battery pack coolant control valve B is below its expected electrical range.
At a glance
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery pack coolant control valve B's control circuit operates the valve that manages coolant flow through the battery cooling system. P0D1D sets when the module detects circuit voltage below its expected range, which can result from a short to ground, a shorted actuator coil, or excessive resistance at a connector.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire shorted to ground
- Coil internal short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame and live data for valve B's command and circuit status, and check for related cooling-control codes.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect valve B's connector and harness for chafing, corrosion, or a wire contacting ground.
- Check connector pins for corrosion or weak contact that could add resistance to the control circuit.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the control wire for a short to ground and test the actuator coil as specified by the manufacturer.
- Compare circuit readings with the manufacturer's specification, repair the low-voltage cause, and confirm valve B responds correctly.
Common fixes
- Repair a control wire shorted to ground.
- Clean or replace corroded valve B connector terminals.
- Repair damaged harness insulation or routing that allows contact with ground.
- Replace valve B if its coil fails the specified test.
Can I keep driving?
Limit high-load driving and charging if a battery cooling warning or reduced-power mode appears, because valve B may not control battery cooling properly. Stop if the vehicle displays a battery temperature warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
