OBD-II fault code

P0CE0: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Control Valve A Performance/Stuck Off

What it means

The HV battery pack coolant control valve A reports a performance/stuck off condition. Coolant routing to battery sections may be impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Coolant control valve A regulates coolant routing through the hybrid or EV battery pack. P0CE0 sets when the control module commands the valve to open or change position but detects that it remains off or does not respond as expected, which can restrict battery cooling.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Valve stuck closed
  2. Actuator failed
  3. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare the commanded valve A state with available valve feedback and battery temperature readings.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect valve A’s connector, wiring, and accessible coolant plumbing for damage or signs of restricted flow.
  3. Use the scan tool's available output control to command valve A and observe whether its feedback or coolant response changes as expected.
  4. If the command circuit is intact, check whether valve A is mechanically stuck or obstructed, following the manufacturer's service procedure.
  5. After correcting the fault, clear the code and confirm that commanded and observed valve behavior agree during the prescribed test.

Common fixes

  • Secure a loose valve A connector or repair damaged wiring affecting its command.
  • Remove a confirmed obstruction that prevents valve A from moving, following the manufacturer's procedure.
  • Replace valve A if it is stuck closed or fails to respond to a valid command.
  • Restore the coolant level or flow if inspection identifies a related cooling-system restriction.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid heavy driving and charging because a valve that stays off may let battery temperatures rise and trigger power or charging limits. Stop safely if a battery temperature warning, severe power reduction, or shutdown message appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
