OBD-II fault code

P0C7D: Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor G Range/Performance

What it means

The HV battery temperature sensor G reports a range/performance fault. Cell-group temperature monitoring impaired on this channel.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Temperature sensor G measures a cell-group area inside the high-voltage battery, and the battery control system checks whether its reading is plausible compared with operating conditions and other temperature data. P0C7D sets when sensor G’s signal is electrically present but falls outside the expected range or responds inconsistently, which can result from sensor drift or displaced mounting.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and battery-system codes to establish the pack conditions when sensor G became implausible.
  2. Compare live sensor G temperature with nearby battery sensor readings and ambient conditions to look for a persistent offset or implausible response.
  3. Inspect accessible sensor G mounting and wiring for displacement or damage, without opening the high-voltage pack.
  4. Test sensor G response and its circuit against the manufacturer’s procedure and specification.
  5. Check battery cell data for a separate imbalance that could affect pack temperatures but does not alone confirm sensor failure.

Common fixes

  • Secure sensor G in its specified mounting position if it has shifted.
  • Repair damaged wiring or connections affecting the sensor G signal.
  • Replace sensor G if its readings fail the specified response test.
  • Address a separately confirmed battery cell imbalance or pack fault.

Can I keep driving?

Have the battery temperature fault checked promptly, especially before extended driving or charging, because the system may restrict power or charging when sensor G readings are unreliable. Do not open the high-voltage battery yourself.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
