OBD-II fault code

P001F: A Camshaft Profile Actuator A Control Circuit High Bank 2

What it means

Excessively high control voltage at the cam profile actuator (intake, profile A, bank 2). Same fault as P001C on bank 2. The cam phaser actuator adjusts intake/exhaust timing under load — a stuck or slow phaser kills mid-rpm torque and can throw correlation codes between cam and crank.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The bank 2 intake camshaft profile A actuator selects a cam-lift mode on engines with selectable lift profiles. The engine control module monitors its control circuit; this code sets when circuit voltage is higher than expected, often because the control wire contacts battery power or the ground return is open.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wiring shorted to battery voltage
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check live actuator commands and related codes to confirm when the bank 2 profile A circuit reads high.
  2. Inspect the bank 2 actuator connector and harness for damaged insulation, corrosion, loose terminals, or a wire pinched against a power source.
  3. Test for a short to battery voltage in the control wire and an open in the ground return using the manufacturer's circuit procedure.
  4. Check the actuator coil and connector terminals against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the wiring and actuator pass, test the module output using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair the bank 2 control wire shorted to power.
  • Restore the open ground return or repair its connection.
  • Replace damaged or corroded actuator connector terminals.
  • Replace the actuator or repair the module circuit only if testing confirms the fault there.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced power, rough running, or stalling may occur if the engine cannot select its intended cam-lift profile. Avoid hard acceleration if it runs poorly, and stop if it stalls.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
