What it means
Electrical fault in the bank 2 intake camshaft position actuator. Same diagnostic principle as P0010 but on the second cylinder bank.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 2 intake camshaft position actuator, often controlled by an oil control valve, changes cam timing in response to the engine control module. This code sets when the actuator's electrical circuit has a fault, so the module may be unable to control bank 2 intake cam timing as commanded.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Oil control valve electrically failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
- Possible rough idle or stalling
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check live commanded and actual bank 2 intake cam timing, along with related actuator codes.
- Check engine oil level and condition, then inspect the bank 2 intake oil control valve connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
- Check the actuator circuit wiring and connector continuity using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Test the bank 2 intake oil control valve coil against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the circuit and valve pass, check the module command and driver using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Correct low or contaminated engine oil if it is affecting cam timing control.
- Repair or secure damaged bank 2 intake actuator wiring or connector terminals.
- Replace the bank 2 intake oil control valve if its electrical test confirms failure.
- Repair a confirmed control module circuit fault.
Can I keep driving?
You may notice reduced power, rough idle, or stalling if bank 2 intake timing is not controlled properly. Avoid hard acceleration if the engine runs poorly and stop if it stalls.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
