OBD-II fault code

P002F: B Camshaft Profile Actuator A Control Circuit High Bank 2

What it means

Excessively high control voltage at the exhaust cam profile actuator (profile A, bank 2). Same as P002C on bank 2. The cam phaser actuator adjusts intake/exhaust timing under load — a stuck or slow phaser kills mid-rpm torque and can throw correlation codes between cam and crank.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The bank 2 exhaust cam profile actuator's control circuit commands changes to exhaust cam timing. P002F is set when the module detects voltage higher than expected on profile A, often because the control wire is touching battery supply; the resulting fault can prevent correct cam timing adjustment.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wiring shorted to battery voltage
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Capture freeze-frame data and scan for related cam timing or electrical codes before clearing anything.
  2. Inspect the bank 2 exhaust actuator connector and harness for pinched wiring, damaged insulation, or a wire routed against a battery-positive source.
  3. Check the connector for corrosion, loose terminals, and signs of heat, then confirm it is seated securely.
  4. Using the wiring diagram, test the profile A control circuit for a short to battery voltage, following the manufacturer's isolation procedure.
  5. If no harness short is found, test the actuator and module circuit to determine whether either is driving or reporting the circuit high.

Common fixes

  • Reposition and secure a harness that is pinched against a power source.
  • Repair insulation damage or a control wire shorted to battery voltage.
  • Clean or replace damaged connector terminals and ensure a firm connection.
  • Replace a faulty actuator if testing confirms an internal circuit fault.
  • Repair or replace the module only when circuit testing confirms it is responsible.

Can I keep driving?

Keep driving only gently and briefly if the engine runs predictably; avoid hard acceleration because bank 2 exhaust cam timing may not respond correctly. Stop if the engine stalls, runs roughly, or loses power enough to make driving unsafe.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
