What is the Volvo V40 Cross Country?

The V40 Cross Country is a raised version of Volvo’s five-door V40 hatchback, with protective styling that gives it a more rugged look. It brought Volvo’s Cross Country approach to a compact hatchback: a practical shape for everyday use with a more outdoors-focused character. The name belongs to a long-running Volvo line of raised, rugged cars that began with the V70 Cross Country.

The V40 Cross Country arrived in 2012. EU registration figures cover 2012–2020, while France’s figures cover 2015. Its first generation ran from 2013 to 2019.

Generation and design

The first generation used Volvo’s P1 platform and ran from 2013 to 2019. In 2016, the V40 range received design updates, including a revised grille and Volvo’s Thor’s Hammer headlights. The Cross Country kept the five-door hatchback shape, with rugged exterior details and a raised stance.
