What is the Toyota bZ4X?
The bZ4X is a fully electric SUV and the first model in Toyota’s bZ series. Developed jointly with Subaru, it uses a dedicated battery-electric platform based on the e-TNGA philosophy. The platform’s low centre of gravity and rigid structure help shape the way the SUV is packaged and drives.
The first generation, code EA10, began in 2022. Toyota says “bZ” stands for “beyond Zero”: the name reflects an aim to create value beyond reducing emissions. The bZ4X gave Toyota a purpose-built electric SUV in its range.
Engines and power
Every listed bZ4X version is electric. EU power figures range from 73 kW (99 PS) to 255 kW (347 PS), while the UK range is 110 kW (150 PS) to 252 kW (343 PS). Canada lists versions from 150 kW (204 PS) to 160 kW (218 PS). The most registered EU configuration was the 150 kW (204 PS) electric version, leading the listed annual figures in 2025, 2023 and 2024.
How efficient is the Toyota bZ4X?
The bZ4X is battery electric, so petrol consumption figures do not apply. Its electric-energy consumption and range depend on version and test procedure. European WLTP, US EPA and Canadian 5-cycle ratings use different procedures, so results across those markets are not directly comparable.
Official EU registration figures cover 2022–2025 and total 58,603 registrations.
Where was the Toyota bZ4X sold?
The bZ4X appears in EU and UK figures from 2022, and in US and Canadian figures from 2023. Its first generation is listed in all four markets. It is Toyota’s all-electric SUV in these listings.
