What was Saturn?

Saturn was an American car brand created by General Motors. Its early compact cars stood out for their polymer body panels, and the range later grew to include family cars, SUVs, a people carrier and a roadster. GM decided to wind down the brand in 2009, and Saturn’s model years ran from 1991 to 2010.

How did the Saturn range develop?

The S-Series established Saturn, running from 1991 to 2002. The larger L-Series followed, while the Ion carried the compact-car role into the 2000s. The Vue, introduced in 2002, brought Saturn into the SUV market and continued through 2010.

In the brand’s later years, the range added several body styles. The Relay was a people carrier, the Outlook a larger SUV, the Aura a family saloon, the Sky a two-seat roadster and the Astra a small hatchback. Together, these models broadened Saturn’s original focus on compact cars.

What kinds of Saturn cars were there?

The range included compact cars such as the S-Series, Ion and Astra, as well as saloons including the L-Series and Aura. Families could choose the Relay people carrier or the Vue and Outlook SUVs. The Sky was a two-seat roadster. Across its model life, Saturn grew from a compact-car brand into a range of everyday passenger vehicles.

Where do Saturn fuel and emissions figures apply?

Saturn fuel economy and emissions figures are available for the United States under EPA ratings and for Canada under NRCan ratings. The test procedures differ: Europe uses WLTP or, for older figures, NEDC; the United States uses EPA tests; and Canada uses its 5-cycle procedure. Results from these markets are not directly comparable.
