Mercury model range
The Grand Marquis was Mercury’s longest-running nameplate, spanning 1984–2011. This large sedan carried on the brand’s traditional image alongside the Marquis, which ran from 1984 to 1986. The Cougar, listed from 1984 to 2002, was a coupe. Early models also included the compact Lynx, Capri and Topaz.
The Sable, offered from 1986 to 2009, was a family sedan. The Tracer and Mystique added smaller cars, while the Villager brought a minivan to the range. The Mountaineer, which ran from 1997 to 2010, was an SUV; the smaller Mariner followed from 2005 to 2011. Later additions included the Montego, Monterey and Milan.
How did Mercury’s range change?
Mercury’s line-up evolved from compact cars and coupes to include family sedans, minivans and SUVs. The Mountaineer became a mainstay of its SUV range, and the Mariner added a smaller option. The Grand Marquis remained in the catalogue through the brand’s final model years, while the Milan joined the range later.
Hybrid versions of the Mariner and Milan brought petrol-electric power to the later range, alongside conventional petrol models.
Where can you find Mercury fuel economy figures?
Official Mercury figures are available for the United States, where the EPA rates fuel economy, and Canada, where NRCan publishes ratings. When comparing markets, remember that test procedures differ: Europe uses WLTP or, for older vehicles, NEDC; the United States uses EPA testing, and Canada uses a five-cycle method.
