What is the Polestar 2?
The Polestar 2 is an electric fastback, with a sloping roof and a practical hatchback body. It was the brand’s first fully electric car and remains its passenger-car offering alongside its SUVs. Polestar grew out of a Swedish performance and motorsport name before becoming a standalone electric performance brand.
The Polestar 2 appears in European Union registration figures from 2020 to 2025, and in US and Canadian figures from 2021 to 2025. Its five-door shape suits drivers who want a passenger car rather than an SUV.
Generations, engines and power
The first generation spans 2020–2025 in EU registrations. The Polestar 2 is electric. EU versions range from 20 kW (27 PS) to 350 kW (476 PS); Canadian versions range from 170 kW (231 PS) to 350 kW (476 PS).
A notable change for the 2024 model year was the move to rear-wheel drive for single-motor versions. Dual-motor versions retained all-wheel drive. The range includes both layouts, with power varying by version.
How economical is the Polestar 2?
The Polestar 2 runs on electricity, so it has no petrol or diesel consumption figure and produces no tailpipe CO₂ while driving. Electricity use and driving range vary by version and market.
European figures use WLTP, or NEDC for some earlier cars; US EPA and Canadian 5-cycle figures use different test procedures. Results from these markets are not directly interchangeable.
Where was the Polestar 2 sold?
The car appears in EU registration figures for 2020–2025 and US EPA and Canadian NRCan figures for 2021–2025. It was electric in all three markets. The most registered listed EU versions included the 150 kW (204 PS) model in 2020 and 170 kW (231 PS) models in 2022 and 2023.

Model years sold in Canada, from Natural Resources Canada fuel consumption ratings (5-cycle test).
Official figures are measured on standard test procedures and differ between markets. Your consumption depends on how, where and in what conditions you drive.
